FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

LMCH UPDATE
Exclusivity & Family Access Policy

INTERIM FAMILY ACCESS POLICY APPROVED
The Board has unanimously approved an Interim Family Access Policy, now posted on the LMCH website, and included in Things N Stuff.
Over the past six months, the Board has been working closely with our legal team to clarify, strengthen, and define family access. While a legal definition of "family" has been established, additional issues remain—some of which may require bylaw changes.
IMPORTANT CHANGE: "Six on a Membership" Policy Ended
One major legal concern was the previous policy allowing six individuals to be added to a membership. This was viewed as a threat to LMCH’s exclusivity and nonprofit status.
Effective immediately and going forward, no additional individuals may be added under this policy.

UNDERSTANDING EXCLUSIVITY
Maintaining our 501(c)(7) status as a private social club means we must meet several federal requirements. Some but not all of these are:

  • Preventing access to the general public
  • Limiting income from non-member sources (e.g., guest fees)
  • Having a clear and consistent membership approval process
  • Vetting new members
  • Encouraging member socialization
These are essential steps to meet IRS expectations and preserve our nonprofit standing.

CORPORATE, TRUST, AND PARTNERSHIP MEMBERSHIPS
We are currently reviewing membership structures involving corporations, trusts, and partnerships.
No changes will be made in this area without a membership vote.
We aim to present proposed bylaw changes on the September ballot.

LOOKING AHEAD: WORKING TOGETHER
Bylaws and policies must work hand-in-hand. We are fortunate to have Board members with extensive bylaw experience, who are working with our legal team and the Bylaws Committee to ensure changes are clear, compliant, and sustainable.
LMCH was created for members and their families, and every step we take is designed to protect that legacy.

WE WANT YOUR INPUT
We will be sending out member surveys soon. In the meantime, you are welcome to send comments to:
